“What others see as paintings, I pass by. What I see as paintings, others pass by…”
Finding beauty where most would never dream to look…
Dwight Baird has been a full-time artist for over forty-five years. Evolving from watercolours to acrylics, he has developed a unique contemporary realism style - big-brush impressionists strokes and subtle squares juxtaposed with highly defined focal points.
Over the years, he has completed several series of works - “Newfoundland”, “Carnie”, “Night Vision’, “For the Love of the Game”, and “Viva Cuba!” Baird”s extensive Cuban collection depicts the daily struggle of life in Cuba - these are not merely paintings, but also a historical documentation of a country anchored in the past, yet on the verge of dramatic change.
The artist is now working on a new series entitled, “Maritime Abstraction” - a collection of larger works revolving around a different perspective on, “All things related to boats”.
He also continually adds updates to his ongoing series, “The Joy of Winter” - a collection of Montreal winter scenes.
The artist continues to push forward, constantly exploring new themes and new ways of working.
Baird lives and woks in Montreal.
